About the role
NPD Quality professional with experience in New Product Development quality planning, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, prototype validation, process capability studies, and supplier quality. Skilled in customer requirement management, root cause analysis, process validation, and cross-functional coordination to ensure defect-free product launches in the automotive and EV industry. Knowledge of IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, and customer-specific quality requirements.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. NPD Quality Planning
- Lead APQP planning for all new projects.
- Prepare and maintain the PPAP documentation (DFMEA/PFMEA/Control Plan).
- Ensure quality requirements are embedded into process flow, tooling, and layouts from the start.
2. Customer Requirement Management
- Capture VOC (Voice of Customer) and translate into quality standards.
- Review customer specifications, drawings, GD&T, special characteristics.
- Coordinate with customer quality for approvals, clarifications, and submissions.
3. Prototype & Trial Build Quality
- Plan and monitor prototype inspection and dimensional validation.
- Ensure MSA (Gauge R&R) is completed for all critical instruments.
- Organize PPAP run @ rate, capability studies (Cp/Cpk).
4. Process Validation & Control
- Lead PFMEA reviews with CFT and ensure risk mitigation actions are implemented.
- Validate process parameters, tooling capability, special process controls.
- Ensure Poka Yoke and in process quality checkpoints are established.
5. Supplier Quality Involvement
- Work with SQA for new component development and supplier PPAP.
- Validate incoming quality plans for new bought out parts.
6. Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare and submit PPAP package to customer.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, and customer specific requirements.
- Maintain APQP, DVP&R, control plans, boundary samples, inspection standards.
7. Change Management
- Validate engineering changes (ECN/ECR).
- Ensure FMEA/Control Plan/Work Instructions are updated for changes.
8. Problem Solving & Risk Management
- Drive root cause analysis (5Why, Ishikawa) for NPD issues.
- Establish lessons learned and feed back into future projects.
- Conduct early risk assessments during tool design, layout planning, and process setup.
9. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work with design, production, process engineering, and tooling teams.
- Facilitate CFT meetings on quality checkpoints and project milestones.
10. Customer Communication & Audit Readiness
- Act as the single point of contact for customer quality during development.
- Support customer audits, PPR, process reviews, and PPAP approval audits.
11. KPI Monitoring
- Track first time approval rate for PPAP.
- Monitor NPD quality metrics: rejection rates, capability indices, prototype defects.
- Drive improvements based on early feedback from trials.
- Candidates with a Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Automobile, Production, or a related engineering field.
- Experience in NPD Quality within the automotive or EV industry.
- Strong knowledge of APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, and Control Plans.
- Hands-on experience in prototype inspection, MSA, Cp/Cpk studies, and process validation.
- Knowledge of IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, and customer-specific requirements.
- Experience in supplier quality, customer PPAP approvals, and risk assessment.
- Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.
